I get this question more than almost any other, usually in a very quiet text the day before an appointment. So let's settle it.
Yes, you can get a Brazilian wax on your period. You do not need to cancel, and you do not need to apologize.
What you need to do
Wear a fresh tampon or a menstrual cup. That is the whole requirement. Pads and period underwear will not work for a Brazilian because the area has to be clear, but a tampon or cup keeps everything handled while I work.
Put a fresh one in right before you come, and if you are cutting it close, there is a bathroom you can use when you get here.
That's it. I have done this thousands of times. It is a normal Tuesday for me.
Why it can feel more sensitive
Here is the honest part. A lot of people find waxing more uncomfortable in the few days before and during their period. Hormone shifts around your cycle can make skin and nerve endings more reactive, so the same wax you barely noticed last month might feel louder this time.
It is not dangerous. It is just more noticeable.
If you are someone who already struggles with waxing discomfort, or it is your first Brazilian, that is worth knowing before you pick a date.
The best time in your cycle to book
If you have a choice, the week right after your period ends is usually the most comfortable time for most people. Skin tends to be calmer, and you are not juggling a tampon on top of it.
But "best" is not "only." If your period shows up the week of your appointment, keep it. Your hair growth does not care what your cycle is doing, and rescheduling usually means coming in with longer, more stubborn regrowth.
A few things that help either way
Skip caffeine right before. It can make you more sensitive.
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever about 30 to 45 minutes before, if that is something you normally take and it is okay for you.
Wear loose, breathable bottoms for the ride home.
Tell me. If you are on your period and feeling extra tender, say so. I adjust my pace, and I will talk you through it.
Can you get a vajacial on your period?
This one is different. A vajacial involves steam, exfoliation, extractions and masks across the whole bikini area, so I recommend booking it outside your period. If you have a Brazilian and vajacial combo booked and your period shows up, message me and we will figure out whether to adjust.
Same goes for intimate brightening: book it when you are not on your period.
Quick answers
Can I wear a pad to my Brazilian wax on my period?
No. A pad or period underwear blocks the area I need to wax. Wear a fresh tampon or a menstrual cup instead, and put it in right before your appointment.
Does a Brazilian hurt more on your period?
For a lot of people, yes. Skin and nerve endings can be more reactive in the days right before and during your period, so the wax may feel more intense. It is not harmful, just more noticeable.
Should I reschedule my wax if my period starts?
Usually no. Keeping your appointment avoids longer, coarser regrowth. If you have flexibility next time, aim for the week after your period ends.
Is it awkward for the esthetician?
Not at all. Clients come in on their periods all the time. Just let me know when you arrive so I can make you comfortable.
The bottom line
Your period is not a reason to cancel your Brazilian. Wear a tampon or cup, come in, and let me handle the rest. If you have the flexibility, the week after your period is the sweet spot.
