How A Vajacial Actually Helps With Ingrown Hairs And Bumps
You get waxed. You are smooth for about a week. Then the little bumps show up along the bikini line, and a month later there are dark spots where the bumps used to be, and you start wondering whether waxing is even working for you.
It is working. The waxing part is fine. The part nobody explained is what happens to your skin in the three to six weeks nobody is looking at it.
What an ingrown hair actually is
When hair grows back, it has to push through the surface of your skin. If there is a layer of dead skin sitting on top of the follicle — and there usually is — the hair takes the path of least resistance and curls back under instead. That is an ingrown. It is not an infection, it is not a hygiene problem, and it is not something you did wrong.
It is also not the only thing that makes a bump. Folliculitis, cysts and hidradenitis suppurativa can all look similar in that area, and they do not all want the same treatment. If a bump is hot to the touch, spreading, hurting more than something that size should hurt, or coming back in exactly the same spot over and over — that is a conversation with a doctor, not with me. I would rather send you to one than guess.
Why waxing on its own does not fix it
Waxing removes the hair. That is all it does, and it does it well. What it does not do is clear the dead skin that trapped the hair in the first place. So if ingrowns are your issue, waxing more often is not the answer — it is only ever solving half of the problem.
The other half is exfoliation, and it has to happen between appointments, not during them.
What a vajacial actually is
A vajacial is a facial for the bikini area. Same idea as a facial for your face, same steps, just somewhere people are more shy about mentioning. It cleanses, it exfoliates properly with professional-grade products rather than whatever scrub is in your shower, it extracts the hairs that are already trapped, it treats the discoloration those bumps left behind, and it finishes with something soothing so you are not walking out irritated.
It takes thirty to forty-five minutes. You keep a towel. Nobody is inspecting you. It is a skin treatment, and it gets treated like one.
There are two, and they are for different problems
The Hydrate & Glow Vajacial ($60, 35 minutes) is maintenance. It cleanses, exfoliates, hydrates and calms the skin to keep things smooth between waxes. Book this one if your skin is basically fine and you want to keep it that way.
The Bare & Bright Corrective Vajacial ($95, 40 minutes) is the one for when bumps and dark spots are the actual problem. It goes after existing ingrowns, razor bumps and hyperpigmentation with stronger exfoliation and targeted treatment products. Book this one if you are reading this because of something specific you can see in the mirror.
If you are already booking a Brazilian, the Brazilian + Bare & Bright Vajacial combo is $145, which saves you $20 over booking them separately and gets both done in one visit.
How often is actually useful
Every four to six weeks, alongside your regular waxing. Not because that is a nice number, but because that is roughly how long it takes for dead skin to build back up to the point where it starts causing problems again.
One vajacial will make a visible difference. It will not permanently solve ingrowns, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. Skin does not change its behaviour after one appointment.
What you do the other five weeks
This is the part that actually decides your results, and it is unglamorous. Exfoliate the area two to three times a week — but not for the first few days after a wax, when the follicles are still open and irritated. Keep the skin moisturised. Do not pick at anything, however satisfying it looks.
For what to use, these are what I keep in the studio because they are what I actually recommend: Bushbalm Ingrown Oil ($26) if you are starting an aftercare routine from nothing. Lady Peng Agent 88 Ingrown Serum ($36) if you have dark spots as well as bumps. The Bare Roll On Exfoliant ($35) — our own — if physical scrubs have irritated you before and you want a chemical exfoliant that applies clean. The 50 Grit Aggressive Wax Exfoliator ($20) if scrubs have never been enough.
Pick one. Use it consistently for six weeks. Consistency beats the product every time, and buying all four at once mostly just means you use none of them properly.
If ingrowns are the reason you are reading this
Book the Bare & Bright Corrective Vajacial, and tell me when you book that bumps are the issue so I can give the appointment the right shape. We will look at what is actually going on, treat it properly, and send you home with a routine that fits your life rather than a list of things you will never do.
